    General Questions

    Currently we offer two different versions of Hoof Explorer:
    • Hoof Explorer for Desktop running Windows, Linux and Mac
    • Hoof Explorer for iPad
    Not yet. We are working on a version which will support Android tablets.
    As well as the two versions of Hoof Explorer we also provide an assortment of high quality renderings (graphics and animations). If you have an immediate need for high resolution graphics or animations please send us a request directly via the contact form.
    All of the anatomical structures within Hoof Explorer are labelled in either: Latin, English, German, Italien, or Polish. If you are an expert in Hoof Anatomy and can translate all of the terms used in the application into your language, feel free to volunteer your services and help broaden the range of languages Hoof Explorer is available in.     Hoof Explorer for iPad

    Hoof Explorer is under continuous development and as a result, more features will become available with future updates.

    To change the language of the user interface as well as activate Latin for the anatomical terms, look for the icon in the toolbox. More languages will be added in future updates.
    Yes. A license for Hoof Explorer available at the web shop. Before buying a license, you can check out the standalone app running as a demo without a license. The demo contains a restricted model with only a few structures and a limited set of features. Adding a license file, which you can buy in our web shop for a reasonable price unlocks the full model and all program functions.

    Manual steps:
    1. Click on the information icon [] in the upper right corner.
    2. Select [License info] in the drop down menu.
    3. A new panel [License Information] appears. To locate the license file (License.xml) on your computer click the box below [Select a new license file].
    4. In the [Select a new license file] panel, navigate to the folder where the license (License.xml) is located. Select the file by clicking once on it. The selected file should be highlighted in gray. Then confirm by pressing the [OK] button.
    5. The message box [License successfully validated!] will show if the license is valid. Press [OK] and close Hoof Explorer. Start Hoof Explorer again. After the restart you can use all the paid features.
    6. You can check your license by clicking on the information icon [] and choose [License information], or click the label [Licensed to] in the lower right corner.

    2. Depending on your browser configuration, do one of the following:
      If a download dialog pops up, choose "Open with Windows Explorer", otherwise go to the download location and double-click the downloaded file.
    3. Inside the zipped file, you will find a folder "Hoof Explorer". Drag it onto your desktop or any other location of your choice.
    4. Inside the folder "Hoof Explorer", double-click the application file with the Hoof Explorer icon to start the program.
    5. If a security warning appears, uncheck "Always ask before opening this file" and click "Run".

    2. Go to the download location and double-click the downloaded file.
    3. Drag and drop it into your "Applications" folder.
    4. Double-click the application file with the Hoof Explorer icon to start the program.
    1. Download the zipped program for Linux: HoofExplorer_Linux_v1.8.0.tar.gz
    2. Open a shell and cd to the download location.
    3. gunzip and un-tar the downloaded file.
    4. cd into the directory "Hoof Explorer". It contains a data directory and two executable files (32-bit and 64-bit).
    5. Set permissions to execute the files with chmod.
    6. Depending on the architecture, run either "Hoof Explorer.x86" for a 32-bit system or "Hoof Explorer.x86_64" for a 64-bit system.
    If an update is available the update icon [] starts to flash.
    1. Click on the update icon [] in the toolbar.
    2. Press the [Download] button in the updates panel.
    3. Hoof Explorer will start downloading the latest available version.
    4. Once the update is downloaded Hoof Explorer will close, install the update and launch again automatically.
    Please refer to our next question if something went wrong during the update.
    1. Remove all the files and directories in the Hoof Explorer Application folder except the license file (License.xml) and the presentation files (*.json).
    2. Download the latest release from our download section.
    3. Follow the instructions on how to install Hoof Explorer for your operating system at this page.
    4. Start Hoof Explorer again.
    This phenomenon may show up on older computer systems if the minimum hardware requirements for the video card have not been met. The minimum hardware requirements necessary to run Hoof Explorer can be found on this page.
    • Open up your "System Preferences" and head to "Security & Privacy"
    • Click on the lock icon and input your admin password
    • Under the section "Allow apps downloaded from:" choose "Anywhere"
